Cleaning your bird's cage

Parrotbox Subscription Vetafarm

Parrots have a tendency to create a large amount of mess in and around their cages.  Regular cleaning of your bird’s cage, perches and toys is paramount to keeping your bird healthy.  Cage papers should be changed on a daily basis.  Food and water dishes should be washed thoroughly on a daily basis in hot, soapy water and rinsed well.  Food and water dishes can be sanitized in the dishwasher.

In addition to daily cleaning you need to give the cage a thorough clean with an avian safe disinfectant (while your bird is out of their cage).  How often you will need to do a major cleanup of the cage and contents will depend to some extent on the type and number of birds you have and how much time they spend in their cage.

If you are able to take the cage outside, you can hose it down or use a pressure washer to thoroughly clean the cage.

We recommend Avicare by Vetafarm for disinfecting your bird’s cage. Avicare is a Hospital B Grade disinfectant. It instantly kills bacteria, viruses and fungi on contact.  Avicare is available now from only $12.78 for a 100ml concentrate.  Simply dilute with water 1:50 prior to use. (For example 20mL/L).
